Title:   Leveling fill in NE corner of courtyard
Category:   Deposit
Notebook:   1108
Context:   152
Date:   2014/04/23
Stratum:   5% small angular and rounded pebbles; shell, bone and ceramics
Description:   Top slope of the context is level. The soil color is dark brownish black. The soil compaction is firm. The soil is very poorly sorted. It is sandy silt.
Notes:   We are removing the leveling fill in the NE corner of the courtyard. It is very dark brownish black with carbon flakes throughout. It is possible that this is similar to the fill of the second pass of Deposit 117. This NE corner has always been a bit different than the rest of the courtyard. A slight martyr had been left along the north and east dictated by the concrete from the consolidation of the walls.
We have arbitrarily sectioned off the northern half of the courtyard to allow for further exploration in our limited time. The western limit is at 103 E and the southern is at 1062 N. We continue to be bounded to the north and the east by the consolidated walls of Unit 2.
24/4/14:
We continued to remove the fill in the morning. It does appear that the surface to the west dives down to the E. While some of what the removal of 152 uncovered looks to be the same surface. Some of it in the corner has fewer inclusions. The stones revealed by the martyr removal (Deposit 139) are now clearly a cut into this courtyard surface. In the very northeast corner there is a second pit cut into the surface that goes below the concrete from the wall reconstructions. We will remove these two pits before turning to the courtyard surfaces.
