Title:   Pit cut through working surface in Unit 2, Room 7
Notebook:   1108
Context:   227
Date:   2014/05/09
Description:   Top slope of the context is level. The context shape in plan is circular. The top break of the cut is sharp. The sides of the cut are vertical. The break at the base of the cut is gradual. The base of the cut is tapered rounded point.
Notes:   Cut context 227 appears nearly perfectly round from the top (if one ignores some damage to the cut uring excavation of fill context 224). Upon excavation of fill/working surface 210, deposit 224 was uncovered and was clearly distinguishable from the rest of the working surfaces uncovered in Rm 7 (contexts 210-214) on the basis of its color and shape. The deposit appeared almost orange against the surrounding whitish-grey soil. Unsure how the cut itself could aid our dating of activities in Rm. 7, but analysis of the materials in fill 224, which contained animal bones, charcoal and potentially other organic material (deposit sent for floatation) might elucidate the cut's contents. We suggest the pit might either be the remains of a post hole or a small waste disposal pit.
