Title:   Metalled road S of drain
Category:   Deposit
Notebook:   1108
Context:   239
Date:   2014/05/09
Stratum:   80% of rounded and sub-rounded coarse pebbles and stones; rounded boulders; ceramics; tiles; bones; marble fargments; iron fragments
Description:   Top slope of the context is level. The soil color is light yellowish brown. The soil compaction is hard. The soil is moderately sorted. It is sandy silt.
Notes:   We continued excavating the surface of the road to the SW of the drain. The surface was characterized by pebbles, cobbles, and tiles, mixed with sandy silt. It is a flat road that has a uniform consistency. The most abundant inclusions were stones, tiles, and marble fragments. This road was fully revealed by the removal of deposits 219 and 223. To the NE it is bounded by drain 232, and to the W by the previous cut, which was created by a modern fill. Although the roads 239 and 226 were not physically connected, we think that they belong to the same road surface. Roads 239 and 226 have the same characteristics, the same number of inclusions, and approximately the same top elevation (86.08, 86.05).
