Title:   Fill inside oblong pit, Room 7
Category:   Deposit
Notebook:   1108
Context:   247
Date:   2014/05/09
Stratum:   c. 40% inclusions (coarse, sub-rounded pebbles), large pieces of coarseware, tiles, bone.
Description:   Top slope of the context is level. The soil color is dark brownish grey. The soil compaction is firm. The soil is poorly sorted. It is sandy silt.
Notes:   Deposit 247 is the fill of an oblong pit cut through the construction surface in Unit 2, Room 7. The deposit would form a regular oval on an EW axis if the round pit (243) had not cut through its easternmost extent.
As we excavated the deposit, we overdug. Thanasis, the pickman, left for the day, and Angela took over. Because of her inexperience on the pick, we noticed at the end of excavating the deposit, we had gone too far down. When we got down to what we thought was the bottom level (the same as 238), it was clear that 247 was much shallower (especially given that below the actual cut are bots and bone sticking up from the scarp). We decided to make the cut (248) above the objects. In the lower level, an iron buckle was found (elev. 84.60, N. 1079. E. 122.76). The fill at the bottom probably should be part of the fill of the large pit associated with Context 274.
