Stratum:   Inclusions of stones (cobbles and boulders, rounded and sub-rounded, some angular tabular), some tiles, pottery, bone (approximately 30%)
Description:   Top slope of the context is level. The soil color is very dark greyish black. The soil compaction is very soft. The soil is very poorly sorted. It is sandy silt.
Notes:   During the removal of context 256, the first lense of fill of the pit, we notice the soil becoming much darker with some ashy patches. We change contexts then and begin removing context 259, the second lense of fill in the pit. We also decide to sample one of the ashy pockets of earth and continue to dry sieve this context.
We are removing several large cobble stones, boulders, and an ashlar block measuring 0.54 by 0.39 by 0.27 m. and first exposed at N1077.43 E106.18 H85.30. We remove this ashlar and several cobble stones only to reveal more large stones underneath. It seems that these stones were dumped into the pit to fill it up quickly. We decide to stop digging when stones cover much of the level around 84.80. This is not the bottom of the pit but an arbitrary stopping point so we can turn our attention elsewhere.
A nearly complete small jug dating to the Turkish II period was found at N1077.67 E106.59 H85.24. Many more large pottery fragments were found as was some bone and tortoise shell. A coin (2014-108) was found in the dry sieve as was some shell, glass, iron, and carbonized olive pits.
