Context:   313
Date:   2014/05/15
Stratum:   around 40% primarily fine and coarse pebbles (spherical and sub-rounded), few fragments of glass and ceramic
Description:   Top slope of the context is level. The soil color is light brownish black. The soil compaction is firm. The soil is poorly sorted. It is sandy silt.
Notes:   In order to better understand the relationships between Room 7, the Corridor, and the north wall of the church and its associated robbing trench, the souther section line of Room 7 was removed. Sections were placed across the corridor at the east and west walls of the church. Then, we began excavating the thin, crusty layer of fill at the interface between Room 7 and the corridor, which had been excavated north of the artificial line as context 194.
As we come down, discolored patches are beginning to emerge, along with a few small chunks of charcoal. A protective layer was placed on this area during the excavation, in order to explore that area more fully later (context 325). In addition, an object, perhaps a knife or saw, was found on the surface of 313 (see context 319 for the knife).
As the excavation continued to the east, a rockier deposit was noticed, so 313 was closed. There was also a color change in the deposits, from a lighter to darker. It is possible that 313 goes under 300 (this new rocky deposit), meaning that 300 could have been dumped on 313 at some point for an unknown reason at this time.
