Title:   Cut for underdug pit
Notebook:   1108
Context:   315
Date:   2014/05/16
Description:   The context shape in plan is irregular". The top break of the cut is sharp. The sides of the cut are vertical. The break at the base of the cut is sharp. The base of the cut is flat. Truncation: Most of pit dug in 1994 excavations (NB #869, Basket 40).
Notes:   During the removal of the tile debris layer above the floor surface we found a rounded cut in the floor near the edge of the scarp of previous excavations. It was immediately clear that the fill of this pit was underdug in the 1994 excavation of this space. This pit was cut into and through the floor surface but was covered by the destruction layer of tiles. Therefore, the pit was cut into the floor while the space was still in use and roofed. Since the pit was underdug in 1994, the shape of the cut currently preserved is that of a crescent, with the rounded NE side preserving the curve of the original cut of the pit.
