Title:   Cut for bedding under bench
Notebook:   1108
Context:   338
Date:   2014/05/19
Description:   Top slope of the context is level. The context shape in plan is sub-rectangular. The top break of the cut is sharp. The sides of the cut are concave. The break at the base of the cut is gradual. The base of the cut is tapered blunt point.
Notes:   This cut was oriented along the east face of the cross-narthex wall (21) in the church north of the threshold (structure 22). The grave to the east of it was laid against its fill. It was filled by earthen and tile leveling fill with one overlying, regular course of bench-like stone. It was possibly cut into an earlier grave, as some human bone is associated with the leveling fill and it incorporates 3 joining fragments of a marble vessel into this leveling course as though it was tile. The fills contained by this cut were sieved with a 7 mm mesh. Panagiotis and Angela helped me at the sieve.
