Description: | Top slope of the context is level. The soil color is dark reddish brown. The soil compaction is soft. The soil is poorly sorted. It is clayey sand.
Notes: | After completing 354, 353 was begun to reveal the surface below. The deposit comes off fairly easily. Earlier, it was believed that there might be a pebble surface (as seen with 346) that runs below the lens that is coming up on the N edge of this area of the corridor. We have traced the deposit pretty far to the W, in the middle of the corridor. It looks as if the deposit immediately below 253 (a clayey matrix, with more yellow patches) is similar to some clayey patches coming up in the space immediately to the S of 351. Hopefully, we will soon be able to clarify the relationship of these surfaces in the near future. With the close of the context, it sppears that the pebbled surface we saw in 346 and 351 doesn't actually continue under 353. It is unclear, then, what the pebbled surface is. Perhaps it sis just a collection of pebbles that look like a surface in the excavation of today. We will continue to watch for this surface and follow it if we can, as we continue to excavate this area.
