Corinth Basket: Temple E, Southeast, context 369
Collection:   Corinth
Type:   Basket
Name:   Temple E, Southeast, context 369
Area:   Temple E, Southeast
Title:   Road
Category:   Deposit
Notebook:   1108
Context:   369
Date:   2014/05/22
Stratum:   25% of coarse rounded and sub-rounded pebbles and cobbles; tiles; ceramics; bones (especially horn cores)
Description:   Top slope of the context is slight down to the S. The soil color is light reddish brown. The soil compaction is firm. The soil is moderately sorted. It is sandy silt.
Notes:   We continued excavating to the SW of drain 332 in order to investigate the longevity and continuity of the road. We decided to examine this lense because stratigraphically it overlay its surrounding lenses. Surface 369 bears no resemblance to the surfaces that have been revealed so far. It has similarities with substratum 367, which is why we removed 369 in a different context. It is likely that surface 369, like deposit 367, served as substratum for road 239, and that the differences in color can be associated with the random material used for the leveling of road 239. The removal of substratum 369 revealed a dark brown surface, but there is no evidence of ash.
