Notes:   Pit fill deposit 465 is the deposit abutting the N edge of the horzontal member of the circular stone feature 468. The context is bounded to the N by the edge of a pit cut. It was decided to this fill in order to determine whether the single horizontally wedged block in the stone ring 468 indicates a second phase of this feature on the basis of the continuity both of the rest of the upright stones in the circle and the cut ca. 0.1 m from the edge of the block that may indicate reshaping. The suggestion is made that the circle may have originally have had a contiuous ring of blocks arranged longitudinally, but that one ws removed and the other knocked flat to create the prserved structure. It is expected that if the positioning of the block reflects a secondary phase, the fill both within and without the feature will be homogenous at an elevation just below the bottom of the block. Excavation of this fill is producing a greater quatity of of large pottery fragments and thin walled glass than the fill within the stones (460). At an elevation even with the bottom the fill outside the stones is far looser and blonder than the fill within. It is decided decided to close the context at this point in order to further investigate the fill within the stones that appears to be stratigraphically later. It seems that the fill outside the stones was likely taken out of sequence.
