Corinth Basket: Temple E, Southeast, context 507
Collection:   Corinth
Type:   Basket
Name:   Temple E, Southeast, context 507
Area:   Temple E, Southeast
Title:   Fill W of pier base in church
Category:   Deposit
Notebook:   1108
Context:   507
Date:   2014/06/11
Stratum:   15%: tile fragments, fine-coarse subrounded-angular pebbles.
Description:   The soil color is dark reddish brown. The soil compaction is firm. The soil is poorly sorted. It is clayey silt.
Notes:   Deposit context 507 is a layer of fill revealed by the removal of the red fill 502. This deposit abuts the W face of the pier structure 23 and the remains of the cement bedding for the mosaic floor of the later phase of the church. Removal of the fill 507 revealed the top of stones that may indicate an earlier wall or perhaps a built cist. It also revealed a sequel of surface/floor revealed by the removal of the fill 105. It is possible that deposit context 507 and the less compact fill above it 502 represent the disintegrated remains of upper courses of mudbrick on the remains of a structure revealed below deposit 507.
