Notes:   Deposit context 508 is the fill of a grave in the center aisle of the church. We began excavating the martyr reserved in order to allow for the completion of the excavation of the grave to the west (cut context 188). We expected that this would reveal the western edge of the grave partially revealed by the removal of the fill 105. As Thanassis began removing the martyr, however, he quickly identified the western edge of the grave cut such that it is clear that the deposit 508 is in fact the highest fill of the grave. This deposit is bounded to west by the preserved patch of the cement bedding for mosaic floor and several large process of the martal were recovered from the fill. Fragments of the green vein from the marble paving slab at ca 1070.25 N were also recovered from the fill indicating that the grave disturbed both the cement bedding and this paving stone. The matrix of this grave fill is quite hard for a grave fill and sometimes has mottled coloring that includes gobs of dark reddish clay. The fill is continuous throughout. Removal of the grave fill 508 revealed the top of the skeleton's skull at an elevation of 85.00 and the rest of the skeleton at a slightly lower elevation (ca. 84.80). All of the grave fill was dry sieved except for the soil directly below the skeleton that was collected for water sieving.
