Title:   Hard fill strip in Unit 2 north of Room G
Category:   Deposit
Notebook:   1108
Context:   521
Date:   2014/06/12
Stratum:   small to medium sub-angular pebbles (40%), ceramics (30%), bone (20%)
Description:   Top slope of the context is slight down to the N. The soil color is light brownish grey. The soil compaction is hard. The soil is poorly sorted. It is silty sand.
Notes:   This context represents the whole exposed top of the area surrounding the southwest, northwest, and northeast of Unit 2. The context underlies context 519 and is marked by an increase in compaction. The sediment within the context is soft and dark brown, and consists of many fine to medium sub-angular pebbles of mixed lithology (40%) and artifact fragments including: ceramic sherds (30%), and bone fragments (5%). Given this data, it is apparent that this is fill material. The context was terminated upon the discovery of a weakly cemented horizon (potentially a floor), that may be associated with the floor south of wall 110, unde the fill. Further excavation revealed that this may, in fact, not be a floor but could be a robbing trench. [Note: At noon, we noticed the total station was out of level, previous measurements should be met with caution]. The context is interpeted as fill that etends around the western pit (context 46) and was terminated due to a change in compaction (harder). The contet looks to continue under wall 110 and therefore, the wall must be removed. Ath this time, this is not possible, and the unit was closed until next season.
Animal bones, 3.45 kg, thrown.
