Stratum:   30% small-medium subangular pebbles, pottery, glass, metal
Description:   Top slope of the context is slight down to the NW. The soil color is light brownish brown. The soil compaction is firm. The soil is poorly sorted. It is sandy silt.
Notes:   This area (Unit 2, Room 2) was previously excavated in 1991 and 2 (NB 834, 839 & 847. We began by removing this medium-packed layer in the NW corner of the room because we are interested in later excavating what appears to be a pit (indicated at this time by a depression in the floor) to the E and SE of this context. This current layer and the layer beneath it appear to be successive layers of packed walking surfaces (floors).
Because the NE corner of the room contained a similar patch of white clay floor fill we considered it including that area with this context, but decided to open a new context for it since the two areas do not directly border one another. See context 436 for this related area.
This floor layer has more inclusions than the relatively clean layers beneath it.the complex immediately to the north or room 2, which we think might be as early as the church. Therefore we are trying to find the foundation trench for the n wall. We are also attempting to understand the use of this space overall.
This area is being excavated to try to date the complex immediately to the north of room 2, which we think might be as early as the church. Therefore we are trying to find the foundation trench for the N wall. We are also attempting to understand the use of this space overall.
