Collection:   Corinth
Type:   Basket
Name:   Temple E, Southeast, context 543
Area:   Temple E, Southeast
Title:   Fill of small pit N of wall 558
Category:   Deposit
Notebook:   1108
Context:   543
Date:   2014/06/16
Stratum:   40% small-medium subangular pebbles; ceramic sherds
Description:   Top slope of the context is level. The soil color is light brownish brown. The soil compaction is soft. The soil is poorly sorted. It is silty sand.
Notes:   This is the fill of a very shallow, very regularly cut flat-bottomed pit in the center of the S portion of Unit 2, Room 2. The shallow nature of this pit suggests that the cut would not have supported any major weight-bearing element (e.g. the support for a roof). There are some inclusions in the fill of this pit, but they are not present in a very high quantity or diversity of type. It is either a shallow refuse pit or the cutting for the support of a small feature within this room.
We will continue to excavate layers of floor fill within this room in an effort to locate a pit cut at the center of the room, as well as cuts for foundation trenches for the room's walls.
See context 549 for this deposit's cut.
