Title:   White clay layer in center of Room 2 (Unit 2)
Category:   Deposit
Notebook:   1108
Context:   548
Date:   2014/06/16
Stratum:   10% small subangular pebbles; ceramic sherds; coin
Description:   Top slope of the context is level. The soil color is light brownish brown. The soil compaction is soft. The soil is moderately sorted. It is sandy silt.
Notes:   This is a whitish clayey layer of floor in Unit 2, Room 2. The area includes a strip running just W of context 541, between that context and a pit cutting. As we have been removing floor layers in this room, we have found that the relationship between whitish and reddish layers of floor (overlaying vs. underlaying) shifts throughout the room, hence our boundary designation of "diffuse". Like the reddish clay of context 546, this layer of floor is remarkably clean and inclusion-free.
We will continue to excavate lower floor surfaces and fill in an effort to revael the cut of a large pit that we believe exists in the cetneof Unit 2, Room 2.
A coin of Achaia was found, dating to ca. 1250.
