Title:   Cut for small pit N of wall 558
Notebook:   1108
Context:   549
Date:   2014/06/16
Description:   The context shape in plan is circular. The top break of the cut is sharp. The sides of the cut are vertical. The break at the base of the cut is sharp. The base of the cut is vertical sides and flat base. Truncation: none.
Notes:   This is a very shallow, very regularly cut flat-bottomed pit N of wall 558 in the S portion of Unit 2, Room 2, that may have served to anchor or support some feature inside the room. It is not deep enough to serve as a posthole for a weight-bearing element (to support, e.g., a roof). The difference in hue between the W side and the bottom of the cut is stark: red vs. brown.
See context 543 excavation notes for further discussion of the pit's function, as well as future excavation plans.
