Stratum:   30% small-medium subangular pebbles, ceramic sherds, glass, fragments of a human skull and other bone fragments
Description:   Top slope of the context is level. The soil color is light brownish brown. The soil compaction is soft. The soil is poorly sorted. It is silty sand.
Notes:   This is the continuation of excavation of the robbing trench for N wall 556 of Unit 2, Room 2, at its W portion, begun in 1992. We have chosen to excavate here for multiple reasons. First, while cleaning this area we found visible various bone fragments, beginning with a partially preserved cranium. Second, there was a stratigraphic need for us to excavate this context next.
See skeleton context 562 for the partially preserved cranium.
This is a continuation of NB 839 B 13, 15, and 24. The original excavators dated this robbing activity to the Turkish period. Though the pottery of this fill date to the 14th century, it was cut from Turkish levels and thus the fill is the redeposition of Frankish material.
Human + animal bones, 1.5 kg, saved in Bone LOT 2014-22.
