Title:   more sterile fill layer above rocky surface in cor
Category:   Deposit
Notebook:   1109
Context:   646
Date:   2015/05/04
Stratum:   inclusions: 10-15% pottery, bone, tile, brick
Description:   Top slope of the context is slight down to the N. The soil color is light brownish grey. The soil compaction is weakly cemented. The soil is poorly sorted. It is sandy silt.
Notes:   We opened this context in the west, since the rocky soil in the NE is still very confusing. We hope to define it better as we move east. Thanassis was of the opinion that the pebbly fill runs the full length of the trench, while Kostas felt that a small patch slightly north of Grave 2014-08 was different. I could not feel a difference, but we removed it first. Since I could not feel a difference and it was very thin, I will not give it a separate context number. The pebbles concentrate in the center of the corridor but fade in the west. High cobbles concentration in NE corner. Working in the west, the more sterile fill is coming down upon a rocky fill, which may be the same as what we currently see in the east half of the trench. We will try to remove all of this more sterile soil before working the surface. Only a very thin layer covers the rocky surface in places in the center and east half of the trench. The context was only marginally deeper in the west half.
