Context:   771

Stratum:   20% inclusions, Medium to Coarse Pebbles, Sub-Rounded Spherical. A good bit of Tile
Description:   Top slope of the context is slight down to the NW. The soil color is light reddish brown. The soil compaction is weakly cemented. The soil is moderately sorted. It is silty sand.
Notes:   (KTT) After removing the fill of Cut 763, we resume work on the larger pit, taking up the removal of the "mauvro" soil. It is, at present, unclear to me if this is the same soil as context 744 that we removed before work on the pit defined by 763. In comparison with the notes, this context seems to be lighter in color and grittier in composition with more tile present, though whether this is enough to have waranted its separation is unclear to me at present. It does seem more compact, not entirely explicable by its exposure over the past few days.
On the second pass Panos moved to the E. Upon scraping the edge of the pit, it seemed that this layer goes under the surface which received the cut (777), thus this layer may not have been a fill of the pit as we had thought. We are therefore closing the context and investigating what we believe to be pit fill in the West. After this, we hope we will have completely removed the fill of the pit and can begin work elsewhere in the room.
