Description:   The soil color is dark brownish brown. The soil compaction is firm. The soil is poorly sorted. It is sandy silt.
Notes:   Context is differentiated fill to W of church characterized by dark brown soil extending around the upside down marble capital base, which was previously excavated during the 1990 field season (see NB 835, pp. 8-=81, Basket 44). Work proceeded from W with small pick by Tasos to a depth of 3-5cm. Inclusions of marble chips and cement were concentrated between the NW pier base (context 32) and the column capital. Ceramics and bone were collected. Work uncovered more of a stone structure along the W wall, the N stretch of which was first uncovered during cleaning (context 7).
