Name:   Temple E, Southeast, context 829
Area:   Temple E, Southeast
Title:   Large Surface, East Half Room 9
Category:   Deposit
Notebook:   1109
Context:   829
Date:   2015/06/03
Lot:   Lot 2015-046
Stratum:   20% inclusions, mostly coarse pebbles, with bone, some ceramic, stones. Sub-rounded, tabular.
Description:   The soil color is light yellowish brown. The soil compaction is weakly cemented. The soil is poorly sorted. It is sandy silt.
Notes:   Excavation began at the robbed out wall on the east, where we come down on a surface below. In afternoon heat, soil is greyish and silty.
Fewer inclusions than the contexts dug previously, some pottery, stones, bones; many coins.
It seems that the surface below is the same as that in the robbing trench to the east, and continues beneath the east wall.
Excavation bagan afternoon of 3/6, continued 4/6, and finished morning of 5/6 in light rain.
Above the cistern/well, the layer comes down on a semi-circular context with more small inclusions. The southern part of the context opens onto a rough patch with larger stone and tile inclusions. At the SE corner, comes down on a surface without inclusions that extends under the E wall and is cut by the well.
At west limit, we come down on a line of rubble and stone inclusions that seems to match up with a similar line at the south, extending to the SE corner.
LN AMS 21/6/15: It seems likely that the rubble of 820 to the southwest of 829 was preexisting. When leveling fill/surface 829 was constructed, a thin layer of dirt (812) may have been smoothed over the sop of the (slightly higher) rubble of 814. Or, this may have happened later.

Animal bones: sheep/goat, bovid, pig, limpet, other sea shells (7.9 kg) all thrown. Although the context was sieved 100% the faunal bones are extremely fragmentary, as if they were exposed for long period. The bones are consequently all thrown.
