Corinth Basket: Temple E, Southeast, context 834
Collection:   Corinth
Type:   Basket
Name:   Temple E, Southeast, context 834
Area:   Temple E, Southeast
Title:   Upper fill of well
Category:   Deposit
Notebook:   1109
Context:   834
Date:   2015/06/05
Stratum:   Pottery, cobbles
Notes:   First level of fill inside well 833, beneath cleaning level 832. Cone-shaped deposit.
Large fragment of a cover tile.
Excavation continued morning of 8/6/15, but was stopped in the middle of the context to avoid digging out of sequence (ceramics coming out of the well suggested the deposit was 12th c.). The cut that we saw above (831) must be associated with slumping, rather than part of the well's construction; the well was instead sunk into a surface at a lower level, as yet unexposed.
24/06/2015 Larkin Kennedy, Rossana Valente
Animal bones: bovid, sheep/goat, bird, (0.5 kg) all thrown.
LN PJK 25/6/15: Pottery from this context was temporarily saved to see if it mends any of the material from lower in the well, or in the adjacent pit. It was not, however, lotted, and will eventually be thrown. This material, as 832 above, is chronologically much later than the fill below; it thus must be associated with later slumping or filling, rather than the use of the well itself.
