Category:   Deposit
Notebook:   1108
Context:   92
Date:   2014/04/21
Stratum:   4% Ceramic (pottery), Bones, Glass, Pebbles, Large piece of consolidated clay.
Description:   Top slope of the context is level. The soil color is dark greyish brown. The soil compaction is very soft. The soil is very poorly sorted. It is clayey silt.
Notes:   In the excavation of 82, we came down on a lens of soft dirt nearly flush against the foundation trench (15). We excavated the pit hoping to find material that could date the surrounding surface and 82. The surface above the lens was noticilby softer, but the lens itself was not visible under the surface (82) was removed. The dirt of the deposit is very dark brown, very soft, and silty. Large ceramic inclusions were found, as well as a large piece of firm, consolidated white clay, distinct from the loose soil around it - possibly a mudbrick. Bone was found in the NE part of the pit. Medium sized (0.04m) fragments of what might be plaster, already brocken, 0.36m down from the lens. We stopped excavation when we came down on a hard clay bottom of the pit on the east side. Some of the lower, earlier wal was revealed. Ceramic fragments are embedded in the bottom. A few stones appear to be missing where we expedted a continuation of the EW wall (Structure 110). Perhaps the pit is associated with a robbing event.
