| Notes: | 20001 is a cleaning pass in the NE area of the trench, just to the S. and E. of wall 3016. We are cutting back the scarp in order to have a defined and delineated area to commence excavation in the northern extension of the trench. The cleaning pass encompasses the strata documented as 2049, 2050, 2051, 2053, 2054, and 2055. The information for these strata has already been documented, so we are only collecting pottery. We are stopping the cleaning pass at level 2057, at which time we will proceed stratigraphically, linking context 2057 and 2058. The end of the cleaning pass revealed 2 distinct strata: to the E., a layer of dark, blackish-brown soil (= 2058), which appears identical to 2057; to the W. and N., a layer of lighter, more compact soil (= 2059). We will excavate the two strata seperately. | |
