Description:   Elaborate volute of a large-scale Ionic capital; parts of two channels of volute preserved, deeply concave, with double row of carefully carved bead and reel surrounding circumference of volute, and a single row between channels. Bolster decorated with leaves: row of water leaves between which spear-shaped leaves; tip of acanthus leaf over these at break. Fragment broken in antiquity and mended; two pin holes in broken face D. 0.009, set 0.058 m. apart. While capital resembles A-1998-3, A-1998-4, workmanship finer, bolster more elaborately carved.
Material:   Fine-crystalled white marble.
Condition:   Fragment. Single frgt., preserving less than half of volute, small part of bolster.
