Description:   Large-scale Ionic capital; resting surface worked with claw chisel, with single long stroke or I near center; no empolion cutting. Echinus: egg-dart at corner, covered by half palmette of which 1 complete and parts of 2 more petals preserved. Deep volute channel, horizontal in so far as preserved, above which bead-reel, both of which continue into volute; 6-petal rosette on eye. Abacus: egg-dart. Bolster decorated with row of water-leaves, bound at center by 3 simple guilloche bands. Above bolster single upright acanthus leaf with triangular lobes, eyes not drilled. Top surface worked with coarse claw. Relieving margin W. 0.049 along edges, which is worked with long strokes of obliquely held point. No drill on capital, flat chisel on decorated faces. Material:   Fine-crystalled white marble.
Condition:   Complete profile. Seven joining frgts., complete height, width; over half capital but missing most of faces: corner of one face of echinus, abacus, half of one bolster, ca. 2/3 volute; small part of center of opposite side without bolster.
