Description:   Large-scale Ionic capital. Echinus: egg-dart with sharply carved elements, originally five eggs across face; first and part of second egg from corner covered by half-palmette with four petals. Deep volute channel, horizontal, with bead-reel above, both of which continue into volute; eight-petal rosette with raised, concave center on eye. Bolster (as preserved) decorated with acanthus leaf on axis above and another below. Top surface worked with claw chisel with smoothly finished relieving band, resting surface and top surface of echinus worked with coarse claw. Two circular iron pins on right corner of front face of abacus. For similar capitals, see A-1996-5, A-1996-2, A-1996-3, A-1998-4.
Material:   Fine crystalled white marble
Condition:   Complete profile. Complete profile, 2 joining frgts, complete height; less than half of capital, with most of one front face and less than half of one side; ca 3/4 of face of echinus, 2/3 face of abacus, 1/2 of one bolster, 1/4 volute.
