Description:   Corinthian capital with kalathos with two rows of eight acanthus leaves and top row of four sets of acanthus sprays and scrolls. Upper row of leaves rising from between lower, kalathos beveled below abacus. Veining on leaves executed by chisel, drill between lobes, either as line or as distinct triangle, undercutting lower lobe of acanthus leaf "arcs" rather than making right angle. In center of each face a vertical tendril rising from acanthus to abacus, flanked by pair of in-curled spirals; flower on abacus completely missing as are all corner volutes. Bottom surface flat. Top surface roughly picked with claw chisel. Dowel cutting (L. W.) on top surface. Similar to capital from Temple G.
Material:   Coarse-grained white marble.
Condition:   Complete profile. Complete profile. Single frgt., preserving half of bottom and almost all of top surface; parts of leaves broken away on both registers, corner volutes; face of abacus completely broken all around.

Findspot Description:   "A stone foundation block for a wooden pillar or post for the roofing was sunk through the paving. The block is in reality a large Roman capital sunk into a pit to about 0.08m. from its top." Williams and Zervos 1993, p. 6.
