Description:   Pyxis lid with broad horizontal rim rising slightly to central knob; knob consists of a short wide stem, convex top. On underside, a short flange closing in slightly from the vertical set in from rim.
Decoration:   Interior reserved. Exterior: row of dots on exterior of rim; narrow band of dicing on edge of rim. Broad animal frieze, l.-r.: lion to l. with mouth open, tail curled over back, purple mane; sphinx crouching to r., wearing low polos, with purple on brest, belly and stripe on hindquarters; trace of wing (?) at rt. break; incised details; dense filling ornament - incised rosettes and blobs; narrow band of dicing, band of tongues at base of handle. Handle stem reserved, dicing on outer face, whirligig on top around solid circle and ring in center. Careful drawing.
