Description:   African Red Slip bowl Hayes form 8A with carination leading to straight flaring wall, and rounded, slightly outwardly thickened lip. Large convex moulding below rim. Similar to C-1972-225 (Slane 1990, Corinth 18.2, cat. 116); C-1934-1765.
Decoration:   Red (10R 5/8) slip on interior and exterior. Large convex moulding below rim with two rows of rouletting, small ridge below. Two corresponding grooves on interior below lip. Rouletting above and below carination, deeply impressed to create continuous grooves.
Material:   Fine red fabric.
Munsell Color:   10R 5/6 (red)
Condition:   Fragment. Six joining frgts., preserving 1/4 rim. Slip well-preserved on interior and exterior.
Period:   Early Roman (44BC-1/2 2nd c AD)
Chronology:   ca. 80/90-160 CE, based on Hayes 1972, LRP, form 8A
