Title:   LATE PAINTED SGRAFFITO BOWL

Description:   Bowl with slightly flaring ring foot with unevenly trimmed edge, flat resting surface, nippled undersurface, straight flaring body rising at ca. 45 degrees to vertical upturned thick round lip. Turning marks visible on interior. Bowl mended before burial: pair of mending holes on floor, 2nd pair on mid-body.
Decoration:   Pale slip on interior and overlapping lip. Sgraffito decoration on interior: 6-petal flower with round tips, incised loop on interior of each, round heart, pointed triangle with inner lines between petals, and spiral in field between triangle tips; narrow band of zigzag on base of lip, between pairs of circumference lines. Green paint outlining petals and triangles and as background for zigzag band, clear glaze over interior and exterior of lip.
Material:   Pale red moderately coarse clay with rare fine white, red and fewer small red inclusions.
Munsell Color:   Near 7.5YR 6/5
Condition:   Complete profile. 21 joining frgts., complete except for ca. 1/8 lower body, 1/6 upper body to lip, small chip from foot.
