Description:   Niederbieber 77 transport amphora with hollow toe, conical undersurface, tall straight flaring ovoid body with max. diam. at shoulder, low sloping shoulder, tall conical neck, tapering to pronounced thin flange at base of outward thickened vertical rim with tapered round lip. Two high-swung vertical handles with 2 grooves down back, rising verticall from edge of shoulder to above rim, then bending down to upper neck.
Decoration:   Broad wheel-ridging on neck to handle attachment. Unclear whether exterior slipped red or is simply unevenly fired surface.
Material:   Semi-fine red clay fired to black on parts of surface, with frequent fine sparkling inclusions (mica ?), frequent angular spherical brown-black and fewer fine white inclusions.
Munsell Color:   2.5YR 5/6 to black
Condition:   Missing parts. Numerous joining frgts., complete except for base of toe, ca. 1/3 shoulder and most of one handle.
