Title:   EARLY GEOMETRIC PLATE

Description:   Plate with flat base slightly raised, convex body, vertical rounded lip distinguished from body by groove, slightly tilted angular reflex handles with a triangular hole in center attached to lip. Similar to W 31(Corinth VII.1, p. 14, no. 46, pl. 8).
Decoration:   Self slipped and black glazed over all interior and exterior. On the exterior, base has reserved cross with solid square in center placed in solid circle surrounded by two reserved bands; the lines of two of the four arms of the cross extend beyond the solid circle through the first reserved band. Body from bottom to top, thick band (H. 0.02) followed by three reserved bands above and below a wide reserved band with three zigzag lines, thick band follows and continues up to the lip and onto the underside of the handles. Interior painted entirely, upper side of handles reserved and painted with thin parallel lines vertically to the body. Similar to W 31 (Corinth VII.1, p. 14, no. 46, pl. 8).
Material:   Fine very pale brown clay fired yellow at core with rare small rounded black, rare fine sparkling inclusions and rare voids.
Munsell Color:   Surface: 10YR 8/3 (very pale brown), Core: 10YR 8/6 (yellow)
Condition:   Complete or intact. Five joining fragments preserve the entire vessel, body intact, both handles mended from several fragments. Glaze is very well preserved on exterior, crackled on interior, worn off on handles.
