Description:   Column krater with thick rectangular handle plate, slightly curving on top, similar to CP-2506 and CP-2509.
Decoration:   Sphinx in black glaze on self-slipped ground, facing right, hair on wing, right foreleg on ground, left foreleg raised, incised definition of hair, body, wing, musculature of legs, and feet, wing and chest accentuated with applied purple. Sides of handle plate black glazed, bottom reserved except for black glazed border of round handle. No filling ornament.

Material:   Fine pink clay with rare medium rounded white lime, red, and black, rare medium sparkling inclusions, and few angular platy voids.
Munsell Color:   Clay: between 7.5YR 8/3 (pink) and 7.5YR 7/3 (pink)
Condition:   Fragment. Single fragment, preserves ca. 2/3 of handle plate including lower right hand corner, paint well preserved, surface scratched with several small chips missing, head and hindquarters of sphinx missing.
