Description:   Terracotta sima with lion head water spout. The nose bridge is raised and slopes down towards both cheeks. Incised V's point off nose on both sides towards recessed eyes which have lower eye lid wrinkle. Nose edge cut into the nose bridge with the nose protruding and nostrils pierced in. Lips in relief dividing muzzle into two parts. Incised whiskers on bulging muzzle, lower edge of which framed by lips. Teeth cut in relief and large lt fang protruding down. Layer of fine clay (th. up to 0.016) on exterior surface of which mouldmade lion head, covers coarse clay core (th. up to 0.028) with back roughly smoothed. Similar to FS 1071.
Decoration:   Dark reddish gray paint on nose, outlining lips, and scattered spots on muzzle.
Material:   Surface: Fine white clay w/ few sm platy round orange and rare sm-med sph ang purple; Core: Coarse yellow clay w/ rare fine gold and silver sparkling, few sm- v. lg sph ang purple, rare tab ang mudstone, rare sph round brown, and rare sm sph round white.
Munsell Color:   Surface: 2.5Y 8/2 (white), Core: 10YR 7/6 (yellow), Paint: 10R 4/1(dark reddish gray)
Condition:   Fragment. One piece preserving nose bridge to teeth and rt muzzle to lt cheek. Broken across nose bridge and cheeks. Paint preserved.

Chronology:   Nose and muzzle smaller than Classical spouts FS 381 and FS 382, and closer to FS 1071 (3/4 of 4th c. BC on S Stoa parallels); more plastic than Roman ones.
