Title:   LATERAL SIMA WITH TENDRIL

Description:   Horizontal dima with tall fascia at base, inset vertical panel, crowning ovolo. Top surface flat 00.07 m. wide. Anathyrosis at lt. joint without overlapping flange; edge of lion-head spount at rt. break. Vertical panel: acanthus scroll in high relief: vertically fluted stalk rises from tall acanthus leaf at base, from it spring two tendrils which curl down and up, each fluted. Long bud hangs from slender stalk, curves to lt. parallel to base.
Decoration:   Soffit: enormous astragalos (over 00.09 m. W) reserved on brown-black ground. Fascia: decoration not preserved. Ovolo: painted egg-dart: egg black with reserved center and reserved outline, reserved dart against red background. On top surface circle with dot painted in black (theta ? ancient ?), red stroke next to it. All surfaces slipped.
Material:   Coarse buff clay with moderate admixture of coarse (to 8mm.) red, black inclusions. Slip tan.
Munsell Color:   10YR 7.5/4
Condition:   Complete profile. Single frgt., complete profile, lt. joint; missing decoration on base moulding; broken at spout.
