Description:   Large three-sided block with squared points, sides smoothly finished. 4 cuttings in top surface: A., parallel to one face 0.155 m. in from edge (D. 0.105 x 0.085 x 0.072); tangent to it but at angle, parallel to 2nd long side is large T-shaped cutting (L. 0.145) set in 0.34 m. from edge (D. 0.132); further right is C., at angle to all faces (0.10 x 0.085, D. 0.059), connected by pour channel to main inscribed face; D. small ca. round dowel set just in from inscribed face.
"The city council and citizens of Corinth erected (this monument to honor) Flavius Hermogenes, the most distinguished governor, their benefactor and the builder of their harbor."
Writing:   inscribed. Inscribed on each face: large A / N (H. 0.18); on single face, 5-line inscription in Greek:
Φλάβιον Έρμ[ο]γένην
τόν λαμ(προτάτον) ανθύπατον
η βουλή και ο δημος ο Κορινθίων
τόν ευεργέτην και κτίστην του λι[μένος]
ανέθηκαν
Material:   Fine gray marble.
Condition:   Complete profile. Complete profile, but missing portions of bottom and top on all sides. Badly damaged and broken in fire of 1933?
