Description:   Tall pedestal with base moulding: high fascia (H. 0.123) cyma recta (H. 0.10) carved with acanthus leaf; crowning moulding: ovolo (H. 0.041) carved with egg-dart, cavetto H00.039, carved with lotus chain, fascia (H. 0.067). Mouldings continues on all four sides. Top roughly picked in so far as preserved; faces worked with claw chisel.
Decoration:   "Because of his upright character and general excellence (i.e., the counc, not only his excellence in speaking skills) the council and the citizens set up [this monument to honor] Publius Aelius Sospinus the orator (who is) the grandson of Antonis Sospis who was agnothete three times, (and who is the) son of Publius Aelius Apollodotus and Antonia Sosipatra, by vote of the city council."
Writing:   inscribed. Inscribed on one face in Greek, parts of 12 lines preserved, addressing A. Sospinos:
Material:   Fine white marble.
Condition:   Complete profile. Many joining frgts., giving complete height, portions of all four faces but heavily RIP; complete thickness not known; small part of top (and bottom ?)
