Description: | Mold of a lion's face. Back is domed and fits neatly into the palm of a hand. Lion faces forward with protruding tongue, very small ears, close to head. Broad forehead with mane in low relief between ears. Eyes small and rather sketchily indicated. Two punched holes for nostrils, asymmetrically placed. Roof of mouth marked with broad gouges of some rounded instrument. Lower lip, under tongue, shows series of smaller gouges, perhaps to suggest teeth. Mould very thick; model pressed into lump of clay. On back three depressions of varying depth show position of lump in fingers while model was being pressed in. | |
