Corinth Object: KN 53
Collection:   Corinth
Type:   Object
Name:   KN 53
Title:   PINAX
Category:   Minor Finds
Category Code:   KN
Object Number:   53
Description:   Pinax with decoration. Clay and paint similar to KN-57 (Stillwell and Benson1984, Corinth 15.3, cat. 1323), and the irregular lines on the edges are somewhat like the irregular zigzag on part of the lower garment border of KN-57. The decoration on the object at left recalls that of serveral vases, mostly LC, where the legs of the couches seem to be decorated with a reserved palmette with black details. Our frgt. is probably LC.
Decoration:   Accidental splashes of orange red paint. Across edge thin, irregular lines in dilute black paint. Black border at lower edge. Part of leg of couch(?) in black with reserved decoration, and part of table in black outlines with black band across center and at bottom of foot. Hind leg and tail of hound(?) in orangish paint under table. Between couch and table is roughly rectangular pattern in the same paint. It appears to be something suspended (from couch?). Obverse had a representation but most of surface is destroyed and completely unrecognizable.
Material:   Pale yellow greenish clay
Condition:   Fragment. One edge and both sides partially preserved. Black paint, nearly all gone.
Provenance:   Corinth.
Findspot Description:   Potters' Quarter. Road Deposit.
