Description:   Kotyle with squared ring foot with central boss on underside of base, wide stem, body with compound curve, slightly flaring rim with tapered lip; horseshoe handles attached just below rim. May have been used to hold pigments, possibly for figurine production. Found with lump of purple-red pigment inside broken base. Stillwell (NB 114, p. 11) suggests that it was used as palette after it was broken "because color goes over edges," but as joining pieces were nearby, perhaps it was used as such while whole.
Decoration:   Black glaze over all.
Material:   Very fine reddish yellow clay with rare very fine inclusions.
Munsell Color:   5 YR 7/6 (reddish yellow)
Condition:   Complete profile. Nine joining frgts., preserving all of foot, 80% of body, two-thirds of rim, one handle, some chipping of glaze, stem discolored.
