Title:   HORSE AND RIDER FIGURINE
Category:   Minor Finds
Category Code:   KT
Object Number:   30
Object Suffix:   005
Description:   Large horse or mule with rider. Mule with thin head and small applied muzzle. Groove for mouth. Horiztonal hole through nose. Small ears, bent nearly double. High, tongue-shaped mane between ears. Stands with weight evenly distributed on conical legs. Leg of rider slightly bent at foot; clay applied along underside. Similar to KT 30-4 through KT 30-12.
Clay at front and right side of mule pale yellow; left side and hindlegs brown, possibly evidence that two halves lay in different parts of kiln during firing (sudden expansion of clay split figure and flung one piece nearer to heat source). Figure obviously rendered worthless after firing, likely that entire groupof horses and mules (KT 30-1, KT 30-2, KT 30-3, etc.) found with it represents single lot of figurines discarded after an unsuccessful firing.
Material:   Fine clay with rare small inclusions and few small, subrounded voids. One side pink, one side very pale brown.
Munsell Color:   7.5YR 7/4 (pink) and 10YR 8/2 (very pale brown)
Condition:   Missing parts. Missing forelegs, tail, and ears of mule. Missing head of rider and part of left leg.
