Description:   Moldmade, Broneer Type XXXII lamp. Raised circular ring as base, echinoid body, wide, beveled to angled shoulder, circular, concave disk, with central filling hole with framing ring, conical handle, unpierced.
Decoration:   On disk, row of four dolphins encircling filling hole, butterflies on rim with two-lobed wings and antennae, divided by rays. Three parallel lines of filigree pattern on base (resembling the butterflies) set within raised ring, oriented on line of handle to nozzle.
Material:   Hard, fine, reddish yellow clay with rare rounded white inclusions
Munsell Color:   Clay: 5YR 7/6 (reddish yellow); burned areas 5 YR 4/1 (dark grey)
Condition:   Fragment. Several joining fragments preserve base, 2/3 body, 1/3 shoulder. Missing nozzle and disk. Burned on one half towards nozzle.
Manufacture:   MM
Period:   Late Roman (5th -6th c AD)
Chronology:   mid-6th century? Copy of South Italian type. Based on shape; no parallels for decoration or base insignia found. Cf. Garnett, Hesperia 44.2, cat. 36-38.
