Title:   LATE ROMAN CORINTHIAN IMITATION OF ATTIC UNGLAZED LAMP

Description:   Moldmade, Broneer Type XXVIII lamp. Flat almond shaped base, straight flaring walls, obvious seam between body and flat rim, concave disk, circular with central tapered filling hole, unpunched hole abutting wick hole, lug handle, unpierced.
Decoration:   Rosette with eight pointed petals on disk, interiors cut out. Herringbone on rim, raised ridge on each side. Nozzle set off from rim by double groove on each side. Two almond shaped grooves extending up to handle frame branch on base.
Material:   Soft, pale yellow fabric.
Munsell Color:   5Y 8/3 (pale yellow)
Condition:   Complete or intact. Intact; part of handle chipped. Slight burning around nozzle.
Manufacture:   MM
Period:   Late Roman (5th -6th c AD)
Chronology:   Athenian models are 1/2 5th c. (e.g. Perlzweig, Agora 7, cat. 2777; Karivieri 1996, cat. 203). Neither of these are exact parallels.
