Description:   Lamp with vertical lug handle and flat top, with stamped decoration on rim framed by ridge on either side (separating rim from disk); belonging to Hayes Type IIB (Broneer XXXI) lamp.
Decoration:   Stamped motif on shoulder of alternating concentric circles and trefoils. One and a half concentric circles stamps flanking one trefoil stamp preserved. Concentric circle motif: Four concentric circles around dot; AfRS Stamp Type 27, in Hayes, 1972, LRP, p. 235; common on Hayes Type II lamps. Trefoil stamp: trefoil "leaves" with three levels of outline, with stem pointing to exterior edge of lamp and two thin lines emerging between other leaves; similar to AfRS Stamp Type 84 (Hayes 1972, p. 245), but with more elongated leaves/petals and lines between other two leaves. Slip: Smooth, light red to red slip characteristic of AfRS, with some pitting on surface.
Material:   Hard fine red to light red clay with rare small voids and spherical angular white and sparking inclusions and granular break.
Munsell Color:   Core: between 10 R 6/6 (light red) and 10R 5/6 (red); Surface slip: between 10R 6/8 (light red) and 10R 5/8 (red)
Condition:   Fragment. Two joining frgts., preserving handle and portion of shoulder.
