Description: | Mouldmade terracotta figurine of a Silenus- or Pan-type figure playing double flute or double pipes. Face grotesque. Head bald, with wrinkled forehead, pointed ears, heavy brows. Eyebrows incised after figurine removed from mould. Eyes large and indicated in black paint. Nose short and snubbed. Cheeks puffed out and mouth obscured by pipes. Drooping mustache and heavy beard. Beard and hair painted red. Double flutes or double pipes extend nearly vertically down from mouth. Left shoulder bare. Figurine hollow through shoulders (head solid). Back flat, smoothed by hand. Likely from same mould as MF-1035; KT22-4. | |
