Description: | Terracotta solid mouldmade standing female with wide short polos with convex top drooping down on lt side of forehead, short round curls frame forehead on rt, oblong face, large raised rt eye, long straight nose with rounded tip, raised lips attached to nose, thin neck, narrow shoulders, rt shoulder slopes, lt shoulder in undistinguished line from polos and hair, rt arm held tight to side, bent at elbow with forearm held across breast holding a bird (short pointed beak, small head, wide short neck, round body, long rectangular body and tail), lt arm held tight to side bent at elbow with forearm across belly, lt hand bent up holding round fruit with stem (pomegranate?). Wears peplos with low curving overfold with straight edge across thighs then drooping down to sides, long vertical folds fall from waist to overfold, long looping folds drape from rt elbow to forearm down to lower overfold, lt sleeve loops falls from elbow with long folds draping to overfold, and long vertical folds fall straight from below overfold to just above hem, flaring slightly at bottom to pool over to of feet. Feet flat on projecting rectangular base. Frontal mould with large depression on back. Rough edges. Piece tilts to rt and forward. Extra ridge of clay below rt arm from recutting? Similar to KT4-106 (Corinth XV.2 Class X p. 93 no. 28 pl. 15). Standing Kore with Dove and Fruit Type. | |
