Description: | Terracotta solid handmade group of four dancers moving in circle with arms joined around flutist standing in center. Figures all have flat strip of clay applied around front of head as polos and clay overfold from back to front as head. Dancer has semi-circular face, broad short neck, flattened chest, long flat strips as arms, joining dancers, rt arm higher than lt, upper body tilted outward slightly, body oval in section flaring as attaches to base. Flute player has additional clay strip over face (mouth?) covering part of clay rolls of short double flute, rt flute stretched straight to rt hand, lt flute overlaps bottom of polos curving under face strip and out and lt to lt hand, flat strips of arms attached at shoulder, bent and stretched forward with rounded hands grasping flutes, and cylindrical body flaring as attaches almost seamlessly to base. Flat circular base with pared and smoothed edge. Fingerprints on faces and bodies of figures. Similar in size and style to KT2-11 (Corinth XV.2 Class II p. 43 no. 8 pl. 4) and KT2-7, 8, 9, 10 (Corinth XV.2 Class II p. 43 no. 4-7 pl. 4). | |
